Terry and Sonya have been the owners of Bush Bank since 1999 when they decided to leave Sydney for a “sea change” in an idyllic rural setting. The historic bluestone cottage and homestead were lovingly restored under their close supervision. Terry completed all the stonework restoration himself and ensured that all modernisation and improvements were sympathetic to the original Federation theme.
When it came to decorating the interiors of the properties Sonya and Terry were able to apply their broad range of creative skills. Sonya’s flair for set and film design lead to the creation of a homely eclectic feel fine-tuned by Terry’s keen eye for design and layout based on his photographic and artist talents.
During the past few years Terry and Sonya have been steadily building the reputation of the B&B business and during 2008 made the successful move to make the wedding and functions side of their enterprise much more dominant.
Sonya says, “Running a B&B on our farm was a natural thing for us to do. Looking after guests with home-style cooking and treating them like members of the family is something we really enjoy. It provides a real balance for us with our rural activities and other interests.” The meals and treats she serves up are truly scrumptious. For the past 15 months Sonya was a regular food presenter on the popular Susie Show on WIN TV and in prior years she also did food advertorials on Good Morning Australia.
Prior to the Kiama move, Sonya ran a food consultancy business for 25 years, servicing large food corporations both in Australia and internationally and Terry operated a commercial photography business in Sydney for 35 years. Terry continues to click the shutter on delightful scenes around the district and some of his work can be seen on this website.
Sonya, with her dream of continuing to create wonderful gardens and good quality beef, can often be seen in the rolling hills overlooking Love’s Bay either working in the extensive gardens or moving cattle or tending to the needs of young calves. On the other hand, Terry prefers to immerse himself in his favourite pursuits of reading, playing golf and painting portraits and landscapes. Together they create a great team to run the business.
Terry and Sonya welcome all guests to their idyllic setting with warm country style hospitality thus ensuring that those who arrive as strangers are bound to leave not just as satisfied customers but also as friends.
